Is it too late for pumpkins on the sill?
According to the label, Southern Tier Brewing Company brewed the Pumking as an ode to Púca, a mythical beast from Celtic mythology. Púca was a shapeshifter who would often take the form of a horse in order to entice humans to hop on for a ride. That ride was never a pleasure cruise, though. It was a wild and scary life-changing affair, although ultimately not deadly. Creepy!
I guess that’s kind of what the Pumking is like. On the surface, it looks like a regular, deep copper-colored pumpkin ale. However, it’s high ABV and flavor profile do take the soul brave enough to drink it on a wild and wacky ride. Is it life changing? No. But it was pretty tasty, and it got me drunk. Cheers to that!
