Time for a German lesson on the window sill today. Hallo!
Stop me if you’ve heard this one: a school teacher and a journalist walk into a bar. The teacher says “Hey, why are we in this bar? Let’s just found one of the most creative breweries in the world, and ship our own unique craft beer to 40 countries around the world.” Badum, pshhh! Tip your waitresses, I’m here all week. Seriously, though, that’s more or less how Mikkel Borg Bjergsø and Kristian Klarup Keller ended up starting Mikkeller Brewery. Like Evil Twin, Mikkeller is also a “gypsy,” or “phantom” brewery, in that they don’t have a home base of operations. Instead, they brew their beers at established breweries all over the world. Although it’s only been around since 2006, Mikkeller has already released over 800 beers of different kinds. They’re not all brewed regularly, but damn!

There are several flavors of the Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse (transaltes to “Hello, I am a Berliner Weisse”). We have the Passion Fruit version on the sill today. For me, this one smelled better than it tasted. The nose is super fruity and refreshing. The flavor was refreshingly tart, but I tend to find that passion fruit beers don’t pack a big flavorful punch, like other fruit beers. This one’s good for a hot day though. I look forward to having more from Mikkeller, and soon.

Go say “Hallo” to our Instagram page for more great beers, right now!
