We interrupt Trillium on the Sill Week for a special announcement: Double Fuzzy has arrived!
Back in May, I managed to check off a bucket list beer by acquiring a growler of New England Brewing Company‘s Fuzzy Baby Ducks IPA for the window sill. Today, we get the ducks’ heftier, heavier, hoppier and, yes, fuzzier cousin for a Duck-off (Hey now)! Which Duck will win the battle?
First of all, the term “double IPA” is a bit of a misnomer. The Double Fuzzy does not have double the ABV, or double the hops, of FBD. Like most double IPAs, it simply has more hops (Citra in this case) and a slightly higher ABV (8.2% to 6.2%) than the regular FBD. To put this in baseball terms, the Fuzzy Baby Ducks is Barry Bonds pre-steroids. It’s still a sure-fire Hall-of-Famer. The Fuzzy Double is like Barry Bonds post-steroids. It’s that much better at everything, and one you come from miles around to experience in person. Tropical aromas hit you like a line drive to the face as soon as you pop the growler top, and the flavors follow with a rush of the same, with a slightly drier finish than the FBD. Hoppy and delicious. Damn near ridiculous. If you’re a hophead like me, this is a must!
Unlike with Barry Bonds, you won’t feel a little scummy enjoying this beer, and there’s no asterisk needed.
