Fill the moat and raise the draw bridge for today’s sweet window sill beer!

I took a trip to BAD SONS Beer Co. last week, and came away very impressed. The Derby, CT brewery opened up this past summer, and they’ve hit the ground running with quality beers. The name is actually an acronym for the towns that make up an area of CT known as “The Valley.” Industry once boomed here, but it looks like beer is what’s going to make the next big splash.

The Candy Castle, which was brewed in collaboration with Armada Brewing, is one of the craziest beers I have ever tried. It’s a double IPA brewed with five varieties of hops: Amarillo, Mosaic, Simcoe, CTZ and Hallertau Blanc. The crazy part comes from the additional ingredients; Twizzlers, Gumballs, Sour Warheads, Candy Corn and Gummies. Wow! While I couldn’t necessarily taste the individual candies in this beer, there was a really pleasant sweetness that filled my mouth before the hoppy bitterness finished it off crisp and clean. This beer is different, but so good!
