The Windowsill is overcome by an insatiable thirst for blood… orange, that is.

DuClaw Brewing Company is all about innovation and new recipes. They’re constantly trying to outdo themselves with outside-the-box ingredients and concoctions. I love that spirit, and that’s why I hold this brewery in high regard. I haven’t necessarily been bowled over by any of the beers I’ve had from the Maryland-based company, but I haven’t been disappointed yet either.

The Blood Orange Neon Gypsy got its start as the first release from the brewery’s Hop Continuum Series (a series of brews dedicated to the “celebration and exploration of the limitless flavoring and aroma variations possible with hops from around the world”), and was so popular that it is now a year-round brew. It contains seven different varieties of hops (Columbus, Simcoe, Chinook, Amarillo, Citra, Nelson Sauvin, Sorachi Ace), which combine to give it a grapefruit, citrus and pine flavor to go along with the tart but sweet blood orange goodness. The bitterness hung around my mouth little too long after drinking, but that’s really the only complaint I had.
