Some Maui Wowie is hitting the sill today!

You know I love a beer with a fun name! Sharks, and other cartilaginous fish, have a group of sensory organs called the “Ampullae of Lorenzini.” These organs were first described by Italian physician and Ichthyologist Stefano Lorenzini in 1678. This beer was originally brewed with Pizza Port Ocean Beach in order to fund the Shark Research Program at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. As they say, “a special beer for a special cause.”

Maui Brewing Company‘s Blood Orange Lorenzini is a DIPA brewed with Azacca, El Dorado and Sorachi Ace hops, as well as heaping helpings of local citrus and blood orange juice. It didn’t knock my socks off, but it’s definitely worth a try if you see one at your local shop.
