The window sill is looking awfully modern today…

Although I’ve only had the privilege of drinking a couple of Modern Times Beer creations in my short life as a craft beer connoisseur, the San Diego brewery is quickly rising up my list of favorite beer makers. One reason for my growing respect and admiration is their willingness to think outside the box and take chances on hybrid brews. As they say on their website, MT likes to create “new, Island-Of-Doctor-Moreau-style mash-ups.” While that might be a terrible movie, it’s a great philosophy for making quality beer.

The Fortunate Islands, which I picked up at Beer Table, is a great example of this daredevil spirit. Is it an IPA? Is it a wheat beer? Yes! The process starts with a backbone of three different malts, which is then dry-hopped with a ton of Citra and Amarillo hops for. Notes of tropical fruit act as icing on this delicious cake. If I were stuck on an island with nothing but this brew, I’d certainly feel fortunate.

We’re very fortunate to have lots of good beer on our Instagram. Go check it out!
