Going fishing on the window sill today, but definitely not to catch and release.

Trout River Brewing Company is definitely at a bit of a crossroads in its existence. Founded by Dan and Laura Gates in 1996, they were at the forefront of the Vermont craft brewing revolution, and garnered a reputation for brewing some of the best craft beers in the state. In 2016, Dan sold the brewery to three friends from Springfield, VT, who decided to move the facilities to Springfield. The great thing about buying an established brewery with a good rep, is that the brewery is established and has a good rep. However, that can also be a hindrance. How do you stay true to the original brand loyal customers love, while making it your own? I’m excited to find out.

The Hangry Angler Double IPA is definitely one that needs to stick around. At 8.0%, it packs a mighty wallop, but the flavor is top notch for sure. Floral and tropical, with some solid New England IPA cloudiness. It’s not going to bowl you over, but I’d have another for sure. I certainly hope they keep the can art!
