I bet you’re green with envy about what’s on my Windowsill today!

Corny jokes aside, it’s almost inexcusable that I haven’t had this Tree House Brewing Company classic on my sill yet. According to the official description, the Green is a favorite of the crew at the brewery. With all the incredible beer they make there, I’d say that’s very impressive.

Why is it so good? Maybe it’s the hop combination. Although they don’t reveal the exact combo, I do know that the recipe includes hops from America and Australia. It’s “intensely” hopped—in the kettle and dry—giving it huge notes of lemon-lime, orange, tangerine and pineapple. It’s also got some solid bitterness on the finish and the mouthfeel is really rich and smooth. The key to this beer is balance. It’s delicious, and green enough for Yoda!

It’s always fun to have a lookalike on the sill!

A few weeks ago, my wife and I took a trip to Boston. On the way home, we hit up Trillium Brewing Company and Tree House Brewing Company—two of the best breweries in New England. The new facilities at the latter are some of the most beautiful in the industry. Although we had to wait in line for about 90 minutes, I came home with more beer than I could carry, and with a big ol’ dent in my wallet. Completely worth it!

According to Tree House, the Doubleganger was conceived with the intent to push the concept of their Doppelganger, which we’ve had on the Windowsill before—to its limits. They increased the kettle and dry hopping rates, while keeping the base the same. The Doubleganger delicious, with notes of mango, citrus and tropical fruit. Very hoppy, but really well-balanced. Amazing!

There’s a storm brewing on the Windowsill today!

Like any good brewery worth its salt, Tree House Brewing Company is always innovating on its recipes. The Super Typhoon—one of the highlights of the available beers when I visited the brewery—is a hopped up version (pun intended) of another great Tree House beer, the Hurricane. I haven’t had the hurricane, but if it’s half as good as the Super Typhoon, I’m sure it’s great too.

The Super Typhoon takes the Citra and Simcoe hop bill from the Hurricane and kicks it up a couple of notches. The resulting beer was well worth the 90-minute wait in line. The tropical and passion fruit flavors blend really well with a creamy body to create a pretty fantastic experience. It’ll hit your throat like a great big storm of aromas and flavors, too. I loved it!

There’s something comforting about seeing a light on the Windowsill when you come home.

Lights On was brewed for a very special reason. Before moving to their current gigantic facility in Charlton, Tree House Brewing Company were based at a 10,000 square foot brewhouse in Monson. The Lights On was brewed to celebrate the opening of that Monson location. Prior to that, Nate Lanier was brewing in a 550-square-foot garage. With Lights On, they wanted a beer that represented everything Tree House was, is, and will be. They did a great job.

This beer definitely turned my lights on. From the beautiful can art designed by @keever, to the improbably even more beautiful color, this American Pale Ale is a real eye catcher. All that haze hints at the hoppy nature of the brew, and it doesn’t disappoint the nose or the tongue. Tropical, citrusy, delicious juicy goodness. Loved this brew! Truly enlightening.

I hereby promise to love Tree House Brewing Company… in perpetuity.

It’s awesome when a beer has a great backstory, and In Perpetuity has one that comes from a place of love. On the eve of his one-year anniversary, head brewer Nate Lanier, brewed a beer for his wife Lauren (aka Tree House L-Dog). He wanted it to represent “foreverness—in love, passion and regardless of circumstance.”

So, is this brew a good sign for the future of their union? If the marriage of Citra and Nelson hops has anything to say about it, YES! I loved the In Perpetuity. It’s hazy, bright and tropical, with lots of strong citrus flavors in the backbone. So delicious, it made me want to say “I do.”

I don’t know about every day, but there’s an IPA on the Windowsill today!

In case you don’t know, Evil Twin Brewing’s head brewer, Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø, is a huge fan of Twin Peaks. When the beloved series came back on Showtime in 2017, the Danish beer maker put out nine different beers with names inspired by random lines from the show. Nine! Sadly, I’ve never seen any episodes of the series—old or new—but I have had one of those beers. In case you’re wondering, the actual quote is “Every day, once a day, give yourself a present.”

My present to myself was this beer. More accurately, the beer was a present from @itsmebmd1085. It’s definitely one of the better gift beers I’ve ever gotten. It’s a milkshake IPA—meaning it’s brewed with lactose—with a vanilla added during the brewing process. Great mouthfeel, awesome hoppyness and that vanilla kick was a nice little extra dose of sweet. Give yourself one of these ASAP!

Let’s get supa dupa fly on the Windowsill today!

I’d like to get to know ya so I can show ya… a little bit about the great Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott. The Virginia native overcame a very tough upbringing to become a true pioneer in the hip hop game for women. You must know her hits, like “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “Work It,” “Get Ur Freak On,” “One Minute Man,” and many others. Now, the First Lady of Hip-Hop (sorry to all the pretenders to the throne, new and old) is commemorated on a beer from Mikkeller Brewing San Diego, and I was excited to try it!

While Missy Elliot couldn’t stand the rain against her window, I really enjoyed having the Misty Elliott on my sill. Supa dupa juicy. Supa dupa hazy. Supa dupa strong with that ABV. For me, though, it was supa dupa smooth for a triple IPA. Not sure what hops, but whatever the recipe, I really enjoyed it. There’s also that label art from Keith Shore, perfectly “Mikkellerizing” the Queen in her inflated purple suit. Don’t put this beer down. Instead, you should flip the Misty Elliott and reverse it into your mouth hole. Cheers!

Send fire, skulls and money… that shit has hit the Windowsill!

As a connoisseur of craft beer, I know that sometimes a can, bottle or glass isn’t always good enough to hold that glorious nectar. None of the vessels do a good enough job of keeping my beer cold for long periods of time. Sometimes, they need help. With that in mind, take a look at the container on my sill today. It’s the Hopsulator by BruMate, and it’s a really cool product. It can be used in several different ways: It’s meant to hold 16 oz beer cans (with the special screw top), but you can put 12 oz cans in it (with the booster). It’s also stainless steel, so you can pour your liquids directly in it… hot or cold. I use it just about every day for my coffee, and I sometimes pour my beer in it. Just switch tops, and it’s a drink on the go (coffee for the car, beer for the beach). Awesome product!

What beer did I pour in my Hopsulator? One of the best IPAs I’ve had all year. The Fire, Skulls and Money from Iowa’s Toppling Goliath Brewing Company was unreal. Incredibly juicy, amazingly hoppy (Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy and Nelson), and with haze for days. You can see some of that amazing color shining through the dark bottle in the sun, right? Unfortunately, I took this one to the beach, so I couldn’t open it to show you guys the full pour color, but trust ya boy when I say it’s incredible.

Still coming strong with that VT Beer on the Windowsill!

This past June, I took a trip to Vermont. Part of that trip involved a stop at Morrisville, VT’s Rock Art Brewery. As you can see by the photos, it’s a beautiful brewery. Although the company was founded in 1997, their current facility is only seven years old. The taproom, which was womanned by a really cool lady whose name escapes me, had amazing beers. Everything was super clean, and there was art displayed all over the place. The best part? The whole place is solar powered. The folks in Vermont know how to do green!

Now for the brew. I was unable to nail down the hop recipe for the 20th Anniversary DIPA, but it’s one of the juiciest, haziest Double IPAs I’ve ever had. Really crisp and clean, with amazing hoppiness and a nice, dry finish. I had it at the taproom (see the 2 oz glass on the great big, round sill?) and brought home a can for later. So good! Perfect for a 20th anniversary brew… or any anniversary, for that matter!  If you’re in the area, go to Rock Art!

Wanna see what’s on the Windowsill? Why not get a glimpse…

River Roost Brewery was opened in 2016 by Mark Babson, a former brewer and quality technician in the industry. Since then, the White River Junction-based beer maker has been garnering quite a reputation for quality brewing. How did I find them? I had to pee. Yep. I was driving up to Vermont, about an hour from my destination, and I had to pee. I popped “brewery” into my GPS and found River Roost. Good thing I did, because I picked up today’s brew in the process. And I peed!

The Glimpse is definitely one of the better DIPAs I’ve had in quite some time. I was unable to find out the hop recipe before posting, but whatever the mix, it’s juicy, hazy, resinous and amazing. Of course, I could tell it was gonna be good from the tropical aromas that zoomed into my nostrils when I opened the can. Find these guys, and drink their delightful brews!
